Following the pandemic, I was definitely feeling the effects of two years stuck on the couch with no where to go. After the world opened back up, I found myself struggling to find a route back to my former health, strength, and flexibility - until I had the idea to go back to karate. I went on a Google search, and from the stellar reputation, convenience of classes, and friendly communication - I knew there was only one dojo for the job.
Having come back for just over a year now, I’ve seen it pay dividends on multiple fronts. I’ve gotten back into shape (though still a ways to go til pre lock down), achieved my 3rd Kyu Brown Belt, met some wonderful senpai and kouhai, and reconnected with a martial art that, in no exaggeration, has saved my life.
The quality of instruction is excellent, with both Sensei blending a mix of tradition and modernity to perfection.
Whether for yourself, your young one, or the lot of you - you won’t get better karate west of Okinawa; never mind the west of Scotland.

This is a fantastic sport to learn and there's no better style than Shukokai! I've trained for over 15yrs at the club having Sensei James Miller as my teacher and over the past few years I've been enjoying his son Sensei Steven Miller teaching the senior class.
Steven also teaches the junior classes which my daughter has recently started and truly enjoying, if your looking to get fit and want to learn something new I would recommend Karate and there's no better place than Shukokai Karate Club you'll be made more than Welcome!

The adult class is fantastic. Everyone is helpful and friendly and the instructors are world class. This is a traditional martial art which really examines technique and develops tremendous power but also encompasses up to date modern life scenarios. It's also a fantastic workout too! Best martial art by far.

My 13 year old son has been attending shukokai karate club since he was 4 and I would highly recommend the club and the sport for several reasons. The sport itself has been amazing for his fitness and strength, but the club especially, and how he has been taught over 9 years by Mr and Mrs Miller and Stephen, has taught him the importance of respect, disciple and dedication. Even during the pandemic the club continued to provide an outlet for the kids to support their fitness whilst also developing additional resources to help keep kids motivated and engaged. Most importantly my son loves the classes as much now as he did at 4, which is a huge testament to the environment and atmosphere created by the club.

My son started the club in 2019 and I myself enrolled in 2021 and I am already feeling the benefits, both physically, mentally and spiritually. Its also helps my son with confidence and he definitely has the 'Karate Bug'. The atmosphere in the adult class is very conducive to learning and improving one's techniques and mindset. At first it can seem a little bit intimidating being in a class where there are so many students who have been attending the club for a while and look like they have a solid grasp of Karate. There are no egos and everyone is very friendly. The Sensei's are extremely professional and patient. I'd recommend this club to anyone thinking of making some changes to their own fitness and wellbeing. Better than going to a gym.

my kids always smiling when they are out n have been enjoying and learning .They are always so excited to go the club.steve is been a very good mentor.I would definItely recommend this club.

My boy joined his class last summer and absolutely loves his Wednesday class always comes out smiling, Steven and his dad are doing a great job teaching the kids not only in self defence but important life skills and discipline

Our son has been going to this club for over 2 years now & he absolutely loves it! We have seen a massive improvement in his confidence! Steven is a great teacher, he is patient, dedicated & has great banter with all the kids! Would highly recommend!

My son has been going to Shukokai for over 5 years now and is currently brown belt with 3 black tabs. He absolutely loves it and is determined to reach black belt
Steven is a brilliant coach and Alfie always looks forward to his Friday class.
I am happy as a parent that this has taught him skills to be able to handle himself should the occasion arise.

Thank you to Steven for teaching my boy self defence moves which were put to good use recently when he was backed into a corner and attacked and his only way out was to use the useful skills he has been taught at his karate class. So proud of my boy for doing such a brave thing but also shows he is actually listening to the useful skills Steven teaches them!
