Adult Member John Balmer

We’re shocked and extremely saddened to tell you all of the sudden passing of our adult member John Balmer.
John was a member of our club for many years and achieved his first Dan followed by his second Dan just a couple of years ago.
John trained in Shukokai Karate for a long time ever since he attended Master Kimuras courses in the late 70s.
John would also attend black belt gradings of members of the club to offer support which always goes a long way to settle nerves on such a big night.
A very well respected Karateka and gentleman, John attended our Cambuslang club so often he was part of the woodwork.
John will be sorely missed and we would like to pass on our condolences to his friends and family at this difficult time.

My dear brother and friend who supported me in many areas of my life.
John introduced me to karate in early 70s at John Wrights EK and later 74 Glassford street.
John had taken me to the championships in early 70s at the Kelvin hall Glasgow, even back then John had trained at Glassford street with an unlimited contract meaning 5 or 6 days a week training.
Karate was a way of life for John, he was a true inspiration on so many levels.
The last time I was with John, just him and I went for walk round Stewartfield loch in EK in the summer of July 2019 and just a few weeks earlier we spent some time with my son in Auldhouse EK, luckily we made some nice videos in 2019 which are nice memories to look back on. Unknown to me those would be the last days I spent with my dear brother John.
Sadly missed and never forgotten.
